Curtis
Cope is
a well-known expert in the law enforcement community. He is considered a Use of
Force subject matter expert by the State of California Commission on
Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) and assists the
Commission routinely in developing new training programs. He is a P.O.S.T. Master
Instructor and administrator for the P.O.S.T. Institute of Criminal
Investigation (ICI) Instructor Development Workshop Series. Mr. Cope has been involved
in Police Practices Consulting since the early 1980 ’s. He has qualified as an
expert at Municipal, Superior and Federal Courts. He specializes in the areas
of Administration, Police Practices, Policies and Procedures, Report
Writing, Supervision, Training and Use of Force issues. Mr. Cope is an author in the
field and has had his works published by Charles Thomas Publishing,
The Police Chief Magazine, The American Society of Law Enforcement
Trainer Magazine, The Journal of California Law Enforcement and
others.
Mr. Cope spent over 29 years
working and teaching in the field of law enforcement, retiring from
the Huntington Beach, CA Police Department at the rank of
Lieutenant. He worked a
variety of assignments in his career, ending it as the Commander of
the Investigation Bureau.
The P.O.S.T. ICI program recently honored Mr. Cope by naming
him the 2001 EXCELLENCE IN INSTRUCTION award
winner.
